12-27-10 Update

Today was a good day in the food department. Breakfast was Chick-fil-A. Not the best, but yummy! Lunch was a can of soup (Progresso Southwestern Chicken Light). Snack was an apple. And dinner was Lemon chicken, creamed corn (very high in starch, not so good nutrition wise, but certainly yummy. And Yoplait, fat-free, light yogurt for dessert....I chose the Red Velvet cake flavor.

Workout today was a round on the circuit and 1 3/4 miles mostly running on the treadmill. I'm very sore this evening.

Check in again tomorrow.

2011 Resolutions and Update

Exercise has been non-existent for me the last 2 months. I've been crazy busy with work. I'll bet you never realized that the flower business is busy in November and December, but it is!

The good news is that I didn't gain any weight back. Although I tried! (Not really, I just didn't pay too much attention to what I was eating). The bad news is, I didn't lose any weight.

So today, I've started back to eating better and exercising. Breakfast was oatmeal with pears, lunch consisted of a peanut butter sandwich and dinner was a new chicken dish that I made (from The Biggest Loser cookbook) and broccoli with cheese sauce. I know I need to eat more, but today it was about staying away from chocolate, the chips, etc. I may have an apple before bed.

I hit the gym today and did a circuit on the machines. Then I did 4 miles on the bike (at a level 6) and then a mile run on the treadmill. Not exactly where I was before the break, but I will get back to that place.

I have several resolutions for the new year, but the most important one is that I'm going to loose this weight (lots of it) and get into better physical and mental shape. My other resolutions have to do with my quilting and my spiritual life.

I'll check in tomorrow and let you know how day 2 is going.

11-11-10 Check In

Today has been a 4. Eating wise, I have shoved everything into my mouth that I could! And no exercise at the gym. Its been an emotional day. I've needed to talk to my sister and it just isn't possible. Plus I was bored at work today and when I'm bored, I tend to eat. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

11-9-10 & 11-10-10 Check In

Tuesday was another 5. The eating didn't go so good, I ate another chocolate bar and I didn't go to the gym. I didn't run either.

So Wednesday I quit beating myself up and hauled my sorry behind to the gym. I worked out my legs and abs and I ran a mile on the treadmill. I did much better in the eating department too. No chocolate today. LOL!! I probably didn't eat enough calories today, which is just as bad as eating too many.

11-8-2010 Check In

Yesterday I did really good on the water drinking. I drank 64 ounces while at work and another 16 ounces at home. The food intake was pretty good. I only cheated and had one candy bar (a 3 Muskateers). For some reason I felt like I needed chocolate yesterday. I need to up my healthy food intake though. I find that instead of eating healthier foods, I just don't eat...and that's not good. No exercise yesterday.

So, all in all, not the day that I really wanted. One a scale of 1-10 (one the worst, ten the best), I give it a 5.

How Did I Get to 240???

I've started this blog as a way to keep track of my weight loss progress and my feelings along the way. I hope that you will join me along the weigh (haha....my poor attempt at humor!)

How did I get to 240 pounds? Well, it was a combination of things. I come from a family of large women. On my dad's side of the family, my grandmother and 3 of my 4 aunts have always been heavy. On my mom's side of the family, her grandmother was heavy and she was very heavy (until her stay in the hospital for 8 months in 2008). I had managed to stay on the lighter side by taking a magic pill call "Ripped Fuel". It contained ephedra, which the FDA has banned because it causes heart attacks and stroke. It was the best thing ever for me! It helped me to keep my weight at a nice 140 and gave me lots of energy to do all the things that a single mom has to do. And finally, the last thing that helped contribute to my all time high weight gain was working in retail management. I worked crazy hours, would eat at all different times of the day and usually it was fast food. I did very little exercise because there just wasn't any time. When you work 10-14 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, the last thing you want to do is to go to the gym or work out. There is still a house to clean, groceries to buy, laundry to do, yard to mow, etc. Anyway, you get the picture.

Here are a couple of pictures of me at my all time heaviest:

In the course of my weight gain, I also gave up something that I loved. Running. I enjoyed running so much! It was a great stress reliever and it helped to keep the weight down. I've actually started running again, and I hope that I can continue to keep it up.

I guess the biggest motivating factor for me to loose this weight was the fact that I lost my little sister this year at the age of 44. She died in March 2010 of arterial sclerosis. Which is just a fancy way of say heart attack brought on by high cholesterol. I do not want this to happen to me. I'm already on blood pressure and high cholesterol medications (but that happened prior to my life without Helen.)

So, I will be blogging about my time at the gym, what I've eaten and how my weight is coming off. So join me on my journey to slim and healthy.
